The main problem with learning Japanese in a classroom setting is the numerous variations in the “right” ways to learn the language.
I learnt Chinese as a second language for a good ten years within a particularly rigid education system so coming into Japanese, with different systems and learning styles was confusing to say the least.
I pick languages up pretty fast (and forget them with equal speed) but usually it’s a slapdash affair.
My current class in Waseda’s three times a week, each lasting three hours.
