Sadly, I have not received any but man, I am envious of the 50 lucky people who’ve received a priceless piece of stop-motion and hand-made history. I’d love to get hold of one of the 50 handmade boxes because well, if I can feel the amount of pride and effort that went into making those individualized packages from all the way here, imagine how much wonder and awe I’d feel if I have a box right in front of me!

Tomopop's Coraline box
ASIFA-Hollywood has a wonderful post collecting all the boxes that have been sent out and received. Do check it out for the delicious handmade and weathered goodies, plus its awesome posts on animation.
Again, I love the Coraline team for doing this because not only is this awesome marketing, but it’s allowed me to jump in on really wonderful and dedicated blogs out there! I would never have stumbled upon ASIFA-Hollywood or have Geeks of Doom under my radar if the Coraline team had not sent out these mystery boxes.

Now Coraline is set to be released in Feburary 2009, and is adapted from Neil Gaiman’s novellette of the same name. I have yet to get a hold of a copy of the novel, but it’s on my to-buy list (along with the 01210298 other books I want to buy and read).

Coraline's creepy fun
Now, why I love Coraline (other than it being written by the godly Neil Gaiman, and the film version being directed by the genius Henry Selick) is it’s whole Alice in Wonderland quality. Only, a little more dark and edgier. It’s the creepy children’s tale for the modern age. Looking at Coraline Jones reminds me of myself and my too-busy parents (they still are always too busy) and how I used to run around looking for adventure. It’s sad that the lovely old fashioned words like “spunk” don’t exist in the Singaporean vocabulary. It’s been mutated into naughty words like “talkative”, “restless”, “asks too many questions”.
I’m going to cover more Coraline news as it comes out but for now, jump behind the cut for a sneak peek the movie.
And yes, IyB is going in a slightly different direction - slowly but surely!
